The 1988 Democratic Convention by Jo Freeman

The Convention

Ann Richards

Monday’s keynote address was given by Ann Richards, the state Treasurer of Texas, whose droll humor propelled her into the national spotlight. She repeatedly referred to the Vice President and Republican nominee for President as "Poor George, he can't help it. He was born with a silver foot in his mouth." This became a mantra of the Democratic campaign.
