Feminist Articles by Joreenwomen's liberation symbol

Joreen was Jo's movement name. As the new feminist movement spread in the late 1960s, many young women changed their patronyms to more descriptive ones or dropped them altogether. Jo decided to contract "Jo Freeman" into Joreen. She signed that name to the three articles in this section and some that aren't included. Jo dropped Joreen in part because it created confusion. Some people incorrectly called her Joreen Freeman, which was redundant, and others asked her if she knew who Joreen was. Because so many people used and reprinted "Tyranny," she signed later versions as Jo Freeman.
